- If you set the Light Mode version as your Lock Screen, the clock may become almost invisible depending on your device. Pinching the screen could make it completely disappear. ライトモードでは基本的にドックは背景より明るくなりますが、一定以上の明るさだとドックの方が暗くなります。逆にダークモードではドックは背景より暗くなり、一定以下の明るさで明るくなります。いずれも明暗が逆転する境界で背景とドックが同じ色になるため見えなくなります。
壁紙上部を真っ黒にしてノッチなどが見えないようにしているのですが、黒を使った距離の長いグラデーションではバンディングという縞模様が目立ちます。そこでこの壁紙では幅9ピクセル高さ16ピクセルという極小サイズでそれを回避しています。あまりに画像が小さいとiOSがグラデーションを綺麗にぼかしてくれるのです。スクリーンショットではバンディングが出ますから画像データでは不可能なレベルです。一体どんな描画技術なんでしょうか。iPhone恐るべしです。
iOS 18で小さな画像を設定した時に若干拡大されるようになったのでそれに合わせてグラデーションの範囲を狭くしました。更に始点と終点のグラデーションを各色ごとに緩やかに微調整してなめらかに仕上げています。

In Light Mode, the Dock is usually brighter than the background, but when the brightness exceeds a certain point, the Dock becomes darker instead. Conversely, in Dark Mode, the Dock is darker than the background, but when the brightness falls below a certain point, it becomes brighter. At the boundary where this brightness reversal happens, the Dock and background blend into the same color, making the Dock invisible.
The top part of the wallpaper is pure black to hide the notch and other elements. However, using long gradients that include black tends to cause a phenomenon called banding (visible stripes). To avoid this, this wallpaper is created at an extremely small size of 9 pixels wide and 16 pixels tall. When the image is this small, iOS automatically smooths the gradient beautifully. Banding may still appear in screenshots, but the actual rendering is on another level—it’s truly impressive what the iPhone can do.
Since iOS 18 slightly enlarges small images when set as wallpapers, the gradient range has been adjusted accordingly. Additionally, the start and end points of the gradient have been fine-tuned for each color to create an even smoother finish.
