• ロック画面長押し ＞ カスタマイズ → ロック画面 / ​ホーム画面 / +（追加）/ ↔︎（切り替え）/↑(削除)

ロック画面を長押し（または設定アプリ ＞ 壁紙）

カスタマイズをタップしてA) ロック画面かB) ホーム画面を選択。横スワイプで壁紙のペアを選択。​
​設定はすべて画面のペアごとに保存される。

• 新しいペアを追加するときは ⊕ アイコンをタップ。デフォルト壁紙や写真シャッフルを使うときも⊕から。→ Appleサポート
• 従来通り写真アプリの共有ボタンから設定しても自動的に新しいペアが作られます（知らないうちにとんでもない数になるかも）。

サポートにない画像を設定する方法を以下で詳しく説明します。

A) ロック画面の壁紙とカスタマイズ

① 写真アプリから選択
② 横スワイプでスタイル（色調）を変更可
③ 壁紙を二本指ピンチで拡大縮小可（iOS 17以降、壁紙を動かすと上部がぼかされる。→ 上部のぼかしを防ぐ方法）
④ 写真をライブラリに表示で設定を中止して現在設定している画像にジャンプ、壁紙を拡大で③をリセット（可能な場合は、時計の前に被写体を見せる被写界深度エフェクトが表示される）
⑤ 完了
⑥ ウイジェットの追加・編集
⑦ 時計のフォントの変更
⑧ ボタンは ⊖ で削除、削除したのち ⊕ で変更可（空白も可）

B) ホーム画面の壁紙

① ロック画面と同じ壁紙に
② ロック画面の壁紙を元に単色やグラデーションの背景に
③ 写真アプリからロック画面とは別の壁紙を選択 → A) ロック画面と同じ形式の設定画面に進む（⑥ウィジェット⑦時計⑧ボタンはない）
④ ホーム画面背景のぼかしオン/オフ
⑤ 完了

ホーム画面を長押し → 編集 ＞ カスタマイズ

① 壁紙を◐暗く/ ◯明るく
② アイコン小/大：大にするとラベル非表示

以下◐マークのモードでは初期状態で壁紙が暗くなる。
③ ライト ◯：アイコン・ウィジェットを明るく
④ ダーク ◐：アイコン・ウィジェットを暗く
⑤ 自動 ◯：システムのモードに明暗が連動
⑥ 色合い調整 ◐：アイコンの色を統一 → 詳しい使い方
⑦ 完了するにはホーム画面をタップするか、カスタムパネルを下げる。

ドックとフォルダの色
システムとホーム画面のどちらか一方がダークだと暗く、両方がライトだと明るくなる。→ ライトモードとダークモード
システムをダークモードに、ホーム画面をライトにすれば、暗いドックで明るいアイコンが可能。逆は不可能。

アイコンとウィジェットのカスタマイズ
iOS 18ではホーム画面を長押しして任意の場所にアイコンとウィジェットを移動できる。ただし移動できるのは規定の場所のいずれか。例えばアイコンを中央に置くことなどはできない。

壁紙のペアを削除
ロック画面を長押し→上にスワイプ→ゴミ箱アイコンをタップ。まとめて削除はできない。

文字を拡大
設定アプリ ＞ 画面表示と明るさ ＞ 拡大表示 ＞ 文字を拡大で画面表示のすべてが大きくなる。表示範囲を狭くして画面全体を拡大する技術なのでスクリーンショットの画像サイズは小さくなる（解像度が下がる）。→ 標準と文字を拡大

常に画面オンのオプション
ロック画面の常時点灯が可能なモデルでは設定アプリ ＞ 画面表示と明るさ ＞ 常に画面オンからオンオフまたは壁紙と通知それぞれをオンオフ。どちらもオフで常に画面オンだけを残した場合は日付と時刻のみ常に表示される。→ iOS 16.2以降

ロック画面設定時のずれ
ロック画面の日付とウィジェットの位置は設定画面とは少しずれる。

壁紙の表示範囲の初期状態
ピンチで切り取る前の壁紙の表示範囲は壁紙によっては変。

• Long-press Lock Screen ＞ Customize → Lock Screen / ​Home Screen  / + (add) / ↔︎ (switch) /↑(delete)
• Long-press Home Screen ＞ top-left* button ＞ Customize (*top-right on SE) ​

Tap and hold the Lock Screen (or go to Settings ＞ Wallpaper).

Tap Customize and select either A) Lock Screen or B) Home Screen. Swipe horizontally to choose a wallpaper pair.
Settings are saved for each screen pair individually.

• When adding a new pair, tap the ⊕ icon. You can also use ⊕ to access default wallpapers or Photo Shuffle. → Apple Support
• ​As before, setting it from the Photos share button will automatically create a new pair — and before you know it, you might end up with more than you expected.

Below, I will explain in detail how to set an image not found in the support.

A) Lock Screen Wallpaper and Customization

① Select from Photos.
② Swipe horizontally to change the style (color tone).
③ Pinch to zoom in or out (On iOS 17 and later, moving the wallpaper blurs the top part. →  How to prevent the top blur).
④ Cancel the setup and jump to the currently set image with Show Photo in Library. Reset the ③ with Extend Wallpaper (if possible, the Depth Wallpaper showing the subject in front of the clock will be displayed).
⑤ Done.
⑥ Add/Edit widgets.
⑦ Change the clock font.
⑧ Buttons can be removed with ⊖, and after deletion, they can be modified with ⊕ (blank spaces are also allowed).

B) Home Screen Wallpaper

① Use the same wallpaper as the Lock Screen.
② Use a solid color or gradient background based on the Lock Screen wallpaper.
③ Select a wallpaper from Photos that is different from Lock Screen. → Proceeds to the same setup screen as A) Lock Screen (without options ⑥ widgets, ⑦ clock, or ⑧ buttons).
④ Toggle blur on/off for the Home Screen background.
⑤ Done.

Tap and hold the Home Screen → Edit ＞ Customize

① Adjust wallpaper brightness: ◐ Dim / ◯ Bright  
② Icon size Small/Large: Labels are hidden when set to Large.

In ◐ mode, the wallpaper is initially darkened by default.  
③ Light ◯: Brightens icons and widgets.  
④ Dark ◐: Darkens icons and widgets.  
⑤ Automatic ◯: Syncs brightness with the system mode.  
⑥ Tinted ◐: Unify icon colors. → Learn more about how to use it.
⑦ To finish, tap the Home Screen or slide down the custom panel.

Dock and Folder Color
If either the system or Home Screen is set to Dark, the Dock and folders will be dark.​ If both are set to Light, they will be light. → Light Mode and Dark Mode
By setting the system to Dark Mode and the Home Screen to Light Mode, you can have a dark Dock with bright icons. The reverse combination is not possible.

Icon and Widget Customization  
In iOS 18, you can tap and hold the Home Screen to move icons and widgets to any chosen spot. However, they can only be placed in pre-designated areas. For instance, placing an icon in the center is not possible.

Deleting a Wallpaper Pair
Tap and hold the Lock Screen → Swipe up → Tap the trash icon. You can't delete multiple pairs at once.

Larger Text
Go to Settings ＞ Display & Brightness ＞ Display Zoom ＞ Larger Text. This enlarges everything on the screen. Since this technique reduces the display area to magnify the entire screen, screenshots will be smaller in size (with lower resolution). → Default and Larger Text

Always On Display Options
For models that support an Always On Display Lock Screen, go to Settings ＞ Display & Brightness ＞ Always On Display to toggle it on or off, or to individually toggle wallpaper and notifications on or off. If both wallpaper and notifications are off, only the date and time will remain constantly displayed. → iOS 16.2 and later

Misalignment in Lock Screen Settings
The position of the date and widgets on the Lock Screen slightly differ from what is shown in the settings screen.

Initial Display Area of Wallpapers
The initial display area of a wallpaper before pinching to crop may appear odd, depending on the specific wallpaper.

​iOS 18ではアイコンとウィジェットの色を統一できるようになりました。ホーム画面はダークモードになってすべてに同じトーンの色が付きます。
ホーム画面を長押し → 編集 ＞ カスタマイズ ＞ 色合い調整

初期状態では壁紙全体の色を反映します（機種やバージョンによっては機能しません）。
​壁紙は暗くりなります。背景を明るくするには①をタップ。
②アイコンの色を壁紙からピンポイントでピックアップ。
③ アイコンの色を手動で変えることもできます。上が色相、下が彩度です。
②③の調整は色合い調整のアイコンを再度タップするとオートに戻ります。モードを切り替えてもリセットされます。

In iOS 18, you can now unify the colors of icons and widgets. When this is done, the Home Screen automatically switches to Dark Mode, applying the same tone to all elements.
Tap and Hold the Home Screen → Edit ＞ Customize ＞ Tinted

In the default state, the overall color tone of the wallpaper is reflected (Does not work some models or versions).
​The wallpaper will darken. To brighten the background, tap ①.
② The icon color is precisely picked up from the wallpaper.
③ You can also manually change the colors of the icons. The top controls the hue, and the bottom controls the saturation."
Tapping the Tinted icon again will reset adjustments made in ② and ③ back to automatic. The settings will also reset if you switch modes.

『なぜ不思議なiPhone壁紙を設定するときに上にスワイプするのか？』に追記です。壁紙の上がボケるのを防ぎます。
This is an addendum to "Why Swipe up When Setting up Mysterious iPhone Wallpaper?". This will prevent the top of the wallpaper blurring.

少なくともiOS17.5では、画像形式がjpegであっても表示位置が不安定になる例が出てきました（もちろん以前からの可能性も？）。

壁紙を動かすと自動調整で上の方がぼかされ、機種によってはそれを取り除くことは不可能になります。壁紙が画面サイズよりも縦長でない限り。もしかしたらたくさんの壁紙が台無しにされているかも。

もしも自動調整をオフにできない場合、これを解消するには写真アプリ ＞ ①編集 ＞ ②切り取りを2回タップ ＞ ③まず壁紙サイズにしてから＞ ④自由形式で⑤左右をさらにカットして⑥完了。設定する時は上にスワイプします。

At least in iOS 17.5, there are some cases where the display position of the wallpaper is unstable even if the image format is jpeg (Of course, could it have been before?).

When the wallpaper is moved, the automatic adjustment blurs the top of the wallpaper, making it impossible to remove it on some models. Unless the wallpaper is more vertical than the screen size. Maybe a lot of wallpapers are ruined.

If you cannot turn off automatic adjustment, you can solve this by going to Photos ＞ ① Edit ＞ ② Tap Crop twice ＞ ③ Set the size to WALLPAPER first ＞ ④ With FREEDOM, ⑤ Cut the left and right further ＞ ⑥ Done. Swipe up when set it.

不思議なiPhone壁紙では主にWebP形式の画像を使っています。

まずは壁紙の画像形式による違いを見てください。上がWebP、下が一般的なJPEG、左がロック画面、右がホーム画面です。iOS 17ではホーム画面の色は自動的に薄くなります。

JPEGは線が滲みがちで、ホーム画面になるとこの壁紙では暗くなっています。特にカーブの部分が弱いです。

他のサイトでダウンロードした壁紙は普通にぴったり表示されるのに、不思議なiPhone壁紙ではピンチインして上にスワイプさせないとなのはなぜ？
他のサイトはJPEG画像を扱っているからです。

iPhoneでは壁紙にできる画像形式が3つあります。特徴は下の通り。
JPEG（中品質・軽い）
PNG（高品質・重い）
WebP（高品質・軽い）
WebPはいいことばかりのようですが、iOSは2020年の14以降が必要。WebP登場は2010年ですがまだ対応してない画像編集アプリも多く、業界標準のPhotoshopでさえ対応したのは1年前の2023年です。
重いとサーバー代も高くなるので世の中に流通している壁紙はほぼ全てJPEGと言っていいでしょう。

不思議なiPhone壁紙では2021年頃から基本形式をWebPにしました。発色と精細さで有利なのは画像形式なのです。これが縁取りの鮮やかさやドックを隠す色の精度にも繋がります。

ところがiOS 16でiPhoneはWebP、PNGを壁紙に使う時に問題を抱えることとなりました。

iPhoneのスクショはPNG形式（なのでとても重い）になるのですが、試しに壁紙にしようとすると表示位置が画面ぴったりになったりでたらめに大きくなったりします。WebPも同じです。
私が今まで知らなかったのはどうやらJPEGではこのようなことは起こらないということ。昨日気がつきました。

それだけなら手動で調整すれば済んだのですが、iOS 17では自動調整という名目で壁紙を動かすと上の方を潰すようになりました。
しかもホーム画面では冒頭のように鮮やかな色だけ彩度を落として表示するようになっています。ただでさえJPEGだと鮮やかさに欠けるのに。

3つの形式をiPhoneの壁紙という観点で見るとこうなります。
JPEG（中品質・軽い・安定）
PNG（高品質・重い・不安定）
WebP（高品質・軽い・不安定）
iPhoneはApple自前の標準壁紙以外は低い画質を好みます。

しかし不思議なiPhone壁紙では超縦長画像と上にスワイプ*でWebPでも安定性を確保。iOS 16/17の高画質壁紙潰しを回避しているのです。

*iOS 17の自動調節を確実にオフにするには画面よりも縦長の画像をピンチインして上にスワイプします。画面下を起点に表示位置も特定できます。

Mysterious iPhone Wallpaper mainly uses WebP format images.

First, look at the differences in wallpaper image formats. The top ones are WebP, the bottom ones are common JPEG, the left ones are Lock Screen, and the right ones are Home Screen. iOS 17 automatically fades the color of Home Screen.

J​PEGs tend to blur lines and are darker on this wallpaper when it comes to Home Screen. The curves are especially weak.

Why does Mysterious iPhone Wallpaper require pinching in and swiping up while wallpapers downloaded from other sites usually display perfectly?
Because the other sites are dealing with JPEG images.

There are three image formats that can be used as wallpaper on the iPhone. The features are as follows
 JPEG (middle quality, light)
 PNG (high quality, heavy)
 WebP (high quality, light)
 WebP sounds like a good thing, but iOS requires 2020 14 or later. WebP appeared in 2010, but many image editing apps do not yet support it, and even Photoshop, the industry standard, only supported it a year ago in 2023.
 Heavy is also expensive in terms of server costs, so almost all wallpapers distributed in the world can be said to be JPEGs.

Mysterious iPhone Wallpaper has chosen WebP as its basic format since around 2021. It is the image format that has the advantage in terms of color and definition. This leads to the vividness of the borders and the accuracy of the colors that hide the Dock.

But with iOS 16, iPhones have problems when using WebP and PNG as wallpaper.

The iPhone screenshots are in PNG format (so they are very heavy), but when I try to use them as wallpaper, the display position is either exactly right on the screen or randomly large. The same goes for WebP.
What I did not know before is that apparently this does not happen in JPEG. I noticed it yesterday.

If that was all, it could have been adjusted manually, but in iOS 17, under the guise of automatic adjustment, the top part of the wallpaper is now squashed when the wallpaper is moved.
In addition, as shown at the beginning of the Home Screen, only vivid colors are displayed with their saturation reduced. Even JPEG lacks vividness.

Here is how the three formats look in terms of iPhone wallpaper.
JPEG (middle quality, light, stable)
PNG (high quality, heavy, unstable)
WebP (high quality, light, unstable)
iPhone prefers low image quality except for Apple's own preset wallpapers.

However, Mysterious iPhone Wallpaper ensures stability even on WebP with its ultra-long images and swiping upwards*, avoiding iOS 16/17's high quality wallpaper crushing.

*To reliably turn off auto-adjustment in iOS 17, pinch in and swipe up on an image that is longer vertically than the screen. The display position is also identified starting at the bottom of the screen.
